South Korean Police Uncover Crypto-Funded Revenge-for-Hire Ring
South Korean authorities have dismantled a criminal network offering revenge services paid exclusively in cryptocurrency. The Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency has linked at least six harassment campaigns across multiple cities, all commissioned through encrypted Telegram channels.
Services ranged from $325 flyer campaigns falsely labeling victims as sex offenders to $1,300 packages involving biological waste attacks and property vandalism. 'We will take revenge on your behalf' read the group's promotional materials, with all transactions conducted in untraceable crypto payments.
In February, police arrested two suspects in their 20s for similar offenses. The cases highlight growing concerns about cryptocurrency's role in facilitating anonymous criminal transactions, though none appear connected to major exchanges or specific digital assets.
